Q2. Let us go back to our initial trip from Chhota Nagpur to Prayagraj and Almora. Describe the three landforms you came across on the way.
Answer:
Traveling from Chhota Nagpur to Prayagraj and then to Almora, we encounter a diverse range of landforms. Here are three prominent ones:
1. Plateaus of Chhota Nagpur
Chhota Nagpur Plateau is a rich mineral region, consisting of hilly terrain and extensive forests. It features undulating hills, valleys, and some flat-topped areas. The region is known for its mineral wealth, including coal, iron ore, and bauxite. The plateau averages about 700 meters above sea level. The climate varies from tropical to subtropical, with hot summers and cooler winters.
2. Alluvial Plains of the Ganges (near Prayagraj):
As we move towards Prayagraj, you enter the fertile alluvial plains formed by the Ganges and its tributaries. These plains are flat and highly fertile, making them ideal for agriculture. They are characterized by rich, alluvial soil deposits. The plains are generally low-lying, averaging around 100 meters above sea level. The region experiences a humid subtropical climate with hot summers, a monsoon season, and cool winters.
3. Mountains and Hills of Almora:
Almora, located in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, is part of the Himalayan range. This area features steep hills, deep valleys, and picturesque landscapes. The terrain is rugged, with terraced farming on the hillsides. Almora is situated at an average elevation of about 1,600 meters above sea level. The climate here is cooler compared to the plains, with mild summers and cold winters, sometimes experiencing snowfall.
These landforms highlight the geographical diversity encountered on this journey, ranging from plateaus and fertile plains to the majestic mountains of the Himalayas.
